Celebrating your child’s first Holy Communion is a once in a lifetime memory. Selecting the perfect First Communion dress will help to make this important rite of passage extra special.
Your church will have guidelines on the type of dress your little girl will be required to wear. Holy Communion dresses are generally formal with a modest and conservative style.
To help you prepare for the special event we’ve put together a few things to consider when buying that all-important dress.
It’s essential that your child feels comfortable in her dress. The right outfit and Communion accessories can create wonderful memories of her First Holy Communion.
Discuss the dress code beforehand so she can choose an outfit that suits her style and the occasion. If she’s not comfortable wearing a dress then check with your church that a trouser suit is acceptable. If she’s not used to wearing long dresses pick a tea-length dress that falls just below the knee.
The right fit for the First Communion dress is essential for your child to look and feel their best. Take the following three measurements and compare them to the size chart for each specific dress:
Bust: measure at the widest part of the chest, under the armpits
Waist: Wrap the measure around the mid-section just above the belly button
Shoulder to hem: Run the measure from the shoulder to the hem length indicated in the dress details
Getting the measurements right before you start shopping will prevent having to return the dress or have it altered.
Start buying early! This will give you plenty of time to find the perfect style and have any alterations done ready for her First Holy Communion.
Add half an inch for comfort. A little breathing room will help your child enjoy every moment of her special day.
